".....And We have sent down on you the book (which gives) an explanation for everything, and (it is) a guide and a mercy and good news for those who submit (as Muslims)."(Ch.:16V:89)

v    Introduction:

Islam is a natural law of life like all other laws of nature which are essential for the peaceful existence of the whole universe. It therefore requires popularization in terms relevant during the period of propagation, so that the people who receive the message could implement it in their lives and thereby experience peace.

There are about 750 verses of the Qur'an which deal with various topics of Natural Sciences such as Astronomy, Biology, Geology, etc. and many other which deal with topics of Social sciences such as Economics, Commerce, Political Science, etc. These Verses deserve interpretation by experts from both Natural and Social Sciences, with a view to inculcate the habit of reflection on the Qur'an, in the dynamic younger generation, which in turn would lead it to the acceptance of Islam on the basis of reason.

Recent findings of Natural Sciences revealed in the Holy Qur'an more than 1400 years back would help in developing a staunch faith in the truth of the Book and modern principles of Social Sciences which are supported by the Qur'an would help in confidently implementing the Book in practical life, realizing that the Holy Qur'an has always been ahead of time in all the topics it has touched, which is a sufficient proof of its being Divine.

v    Establishment and Inauguration:

The Islamic Academy of Sciences was established in 1985 in accordance with the instructions given in the Holy Qur'an to reflect on the creation and thereby accept the Existence, Supremacy, Unity, Omnipresence, Omnipotence and Omniscience of the Creator - Allah and to propagate Islam in terms and style relevant to the present level of knowledge.

The Islamic Academy of Sciences was formally inaugurated in August 1986. On this occasion a seminar was organized in which experts from various disciplines of Natural and Social Sciences and learned religious scholars participated. Similar seminars and symposia are regularly organized, sometimes in collaboration with other organizations such as Iqbal Academy.

v    Activities:

In addition to this, regular meetings are held every month to discuss various subjects and scientific terms in the Holy Qur'an. In more than 40 meetings held so far, experts from Natural and Social Sciences and learned religious Arabic scholars interacted in a highly academic environment. One of the topics discussed exhaustively was 'Attributes of Allah', keeping in view the present state of knowledge. This discussion was so enlightening that there arose a demand for publishing a book on this topic based on these discussions, and its publication was completed in 1998, by the name "Attributes of Allah"

v    Publications:

The Islamic Academy of Sciences has brought out a number of publications:

1.     Fundamentals of Islam

2.     Elements of Namaz

3.     Life and work of Prophet Mohammed (PBH) (for students)

4.     Subject index to the Holy Qur'an

5.     Qur'an, Science and the Universe

6.     Arabic grammar and Dictionary of the Holy Qur'an, etc.

The Islamic Academy of Sciences has also published "A Simple Translation of the Holy Qur'an", with notes on topics of science by Dr. Mir Aneesuddin M.Sc. Ph.D. president of the Islamic Academy of Sciences. This translation was released in November 1993 and was widely accepted mostly because of the simple language, which made people understand the Qur'an easily; and explanatory notes on topics of science dealt with in various verses of the Qur'an, which made them realize how ultra modern the Qur'an is.

v    Future Programs:

The Islamic Academy of Sciences has an ambitious programme of publication of books in English, because they are easily understood by the majority of the educated people in this part of the world.

The Islamic Academy of Sciences thus intends to popularize Islam keeping in view the current demands.

Islamic Academy of Sciences welcomes suggestions from learned Muslims and solicits their co-operation in fulfilling its aims.
